Young woman killed in Costa Blanca train crash

A 24-year-old woman died on Monday evening after she was hit by a train on the railway line between Torrellano and San Gabriel on the Costa Blanca.

Unauthorized crossing

The woman, of Moldovan origin, was crossing the tracks at an unauthorized crossing at around 6 p.m. Preliminary findings suggest she may have gotten lost and was distracted by talking on her mobile phone when the train hit her. Forensic and police units were investigating the scene of the incident. Rail operator Adif said train services on the C-1 line between Murcia and Alicante were temporarily suspended, affecting long-distance, medium-distance and commuter trains.
