OMIC Torrevieja, the Municipal Office for Consumer Information of Torrevieja (OMIC), received a whopping 493 complaints in 2024. This is an increase of 4.9% compared to 2023. The number of complaints had already increased by 13% in 2023 compared to 2022. These figures highlight a growing trend in the number of consumer complaints.

Telecom sector main cause of complaints

Most complaints this year came from the telecommunications sector, with 53 reports. This was followed by 38 complaints about car repair shops, 34 about health services and 27 about banking institutions. Councillor Rosa Cañón called the increase in complaints about car repair shops striking. Customers complained mainly about the non-compliance with guarantees and poor service in health care.

New location for OMIC

In April 2024, OMIC moved to a central location at Calle Clemente Gosálvez, 24 Bajo, near Torrevieja Town Hall. This move improved accessibility for citizens and users. To meet growing demand, the office increased its staff from one to two officials. It also increased the number of days on which personal services are offered, especially during holiday periods.

Role of OMIC in consumer protection

The OMIC plays an important role in receiving, processing and mediating consumer complaints. In addition, the office offers advice and information to the residents of Torrevieja. This free service is essential for protecting the rights of consumers. The increase in the number of complaints underlines the growing dependence on OMIC for the representation and protection of consumer interests.
