At Playa del Saladar in Alicante, dozens of campers from across Europe are parked in a public parking lot right by the sea. The camper tourists stay for weeks at a time, setting up tables and chairs outside, even though this is not officially allowed. This causes inconvenience for residents, especially since there are no facilities for proper waste and wastewater disposal. Some even dump wastewater in a nearby nature reserve.

Resident concerns

Residents are unhappy with the pollution and the long-term occupation of parking spaces. They believe the municipality should provide solutions, such as designated camper areas where visitors can stay for a small fee and properly dispose of their waste. This would allow tourism on the Costa Blanca to continue without negatively impacting local residents.

In nearby coastal areas, such as the dog beach and Cala de los Borrachos, similar issues are occurring. Campers occupy public spaces for extended periods, leading to a shortage of regular parking spots and frustration among local residents. Local business owners are also concerned, as customers sometimes struggle to find parking. They are calling on the municipality to enforce stricter regulations and designate official camper areas with basic facilities.

Guide

For camper tourists who prefer to stay at an official site, there is a comprehensive guide to all designated camper spots along the Costa Blanca. Here, you can find information on authorized locations and practical tips for a hassle-free stay in the sun.
