A British tourist is warning holidaymakers in Benidorm about unfavourable exchange rates. She discovered that a local bureau de change offered her a bad deal. After exchanging £300, Rosie Stockdale only got €270 back. This was considerably less than she expected, especially as the British pound was stronger at the time.
More and more tourists are being affected
Stockdale shared her experience about the unfavorable exchange rate on social media. Immediately after her post, numerous reactions came in. Many people confirmed that they had fallen into the same trap. This makes it clear that this problem has been going on for a long time. Exchange offices use small print and unclear conditions, which means that tourists often discover too late that they have been disadvantaged and have to deal with the unfavorable exchange rates.
Smart tips for holidaymakers
Anyone who wants to exchange money should check the exchange rates in advance. It is therefore wise to choose exchange offices that have clear and transparent conditions. In addition, it may be more advantageous to withdraw money from an ATM or to use a credit card with low exchange costs. In this way, tourists can avoid unpleasant surprises and therefore an unfavorable exchange rate, and enjoy their holiday without worries.
