AEMET: warning for Alicante, heavy rain and snow

The Spanish Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued a yellow warning for the northern coast of Alicante. Heavy rain, thunderstorms and snow are expected in the Marina Alta region from Thursday 16 January at 12:00 until Friday at 00:00.

What to expect?

• Rain: Up to 20 mm of precipitation per hour and 60 mm in 12 hours.
• Thunderstorms and hail: Showers may be accompanied by small hail.
• Snow: The snow level is between 900-1100 meters, but can drop to 600-700 meters in the north of Alicante.
• Wind and waves: A new warning will be activated on Friday due to northeasterly winds of 50-60 km/h and waves of up to 3 meters.

The AEMET warnings highlight the risk of “heavy intensity showers” in areas exposed to northerly and northeasterly winds. Residents and tourists in the region are advised to be careful and be prepared for the forecasted weather conditions.
