Free public transport in Spain is coming to an end. The Spanish government has not extended the period of free public transport and discounts on train tickets. The program previously offered a 100% discount on multi-journey cards when making a minimum number of journeys. Travellers who have already purchased their cards can continue to use them for the time being. From now on, single train tickets range in price from €1.80 to €3.60, depending on the distance. This also applies to Avant and Medium-distance trains, the fares for which have been reset by Renfe. However, there are still discount options for regular commuters. Multi-journey cards can be discounted up to 50% for regular use. The measure of free public transport in Spain was intended to make travel affordable. It was also a way to encourage sustainable transport. This has attracted many travellers in recent months. The end of this scheme means that users will now have to return to paying regular fares. Nevertheless, there are still affordable options for frequent travellers.
