Mediterranean detox: start the new year fresh and energetic

The holidays are behind us, and it’s time to bring our bodies back into balance. Time for a Mediterranean detox. No strict diets or complicated regimes, but simple, effective steps inspired by the Mediterranean lifestyle. Let’s get started together!

1. Eat fresh and local

Start your day with a visit to one of the bustling markets here on the Costa Blanca. The Friday morning market in Moraira is one of my favourites. Here you will find an abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables. Choose seasonal produce such as citrus fruits; oranges and lemons are packed with vitamin C and will help boost your immune system. Artichokes are fantastic for your liver and aid digestion. And don’t forget the olives; they contain healthy fats and antioxidants which help to maintain healthy cholesterol levels.

2. Hydrate with a twist

Water is essential, but let’s add a little something extra. Start your morning with a glass of water with fresh lemon; it will help your digestion and give you a vitamin C boost. During the day, you can make infusions with local herbs like rosemary or mint for a refreshing taste and extra antioxidants.

3. Exercise outdoors

Take advantage of the mild winter weather and get outside. A brisk walk along the beach or a hike in the mountains does wonders for both body and mind. The fresh air and exercise stimulate your circulation and help detoxify. In addition, your body produces vitamin D through exposure to the sun, which is essential for your immune system.

4. Cook simple and healthy

Cooking at home doesn’t have to be complicated. Make a simple salad with fresh artichokes, orange segments and olives, drizzled with a little extra virgin olive oil. Or try a grilled fish with a herb crust of local spices and a side of steamed seasonal vegetables. These meals are light, filling and packed with flavour. In short: an effective Mediterranean detox is always within reach!

5. Relax and recover

Detoxing is not just about what you eat, but also about how you feel. Take time to relax; this can be through meditation, yoga or just a quiet moment with a good book. Reducing stress is crucial for your overall well-being and helps your body to recover. Let’s start this new year together with positive energy and a healthy mindset.
