At The Sound Of The Costa, October is all about wine. Along the Costa Blanca and the Costa del Sol, the vendimia – the grape harvest – marks the moment when summer comes to an end and the winemakers begin their craft. For locals, it is more than an agricultural tradition: it is a celebration of gathering, collaboration and pride. With this introduction we kick off October as Wine Month and offer a taste of the stories to come in the weeks ahead.
Wine is deeply rooted in Spanish life. From centuries-old bodegas to modern wineries that focus on sustainability and innovation, traces of this rich tradition can be found everywhere. On the Costa Blanca and the Costa del Sol you don’t just taste the wine, but also the landscapes and heritage from which it was born.
The vendimia, the grape harvest in September and October, is a time when villages come alive. Families and friends head into the vineyards together to celebrate bringing in the grapes. There are festivals with music, tastings and parades. It marks the beginning of a new wine year, full of hope and anticipation.
During Wine Month we explore wine from four different perspectives:
Gusto: stories about gastronomy, wine pairings, and the role of sommeliers.
Vida Sana: the grape as a superfood, and the balance between health and enjoyment.
Casa y Vida: living with wine, the architecture of bodegas, and how wine finds its place in daily life.
Viva Cultura: the traditions, art, and history in which wine plays a leading role.
