FeelGood Radio The Sound Of The Costa
Maybe it sounds familiar: you wake up, grab your phone, check your messages, coffee, shower, off you go. And before you know it, it’s already noon. Many Northern Europeans start their day in high gear — even here on the Costa. But the Spanish morning follows a different rhythm: slower, lighter, more mindful. And that makes all the difference.
In Spain, no one seems to be in a hurry before nine in the morning. Cafés open slowly, the sun climbs lazily above the sea, and people actually take their time for a tostada and a café con leche. Not out of laziness, but out of habit. A calm start allows your body and mind to fall in step with the natural rhythm of the day.
When you jump straight into action, you skip the chance to actually arrive in your day. Your body is still in rest mode while your mind is already running at full speed. That mismatch often shows up later as tension or fatigue. A slow morning routine brings the two back into balance.
You don’t need a complicated yoga session or an expensive juice cleanse to make your morning healthier. It’s all in the small adjustments.
Leave your phone aside for the first twenty minutes. Breathe, notice the light, stretch a little.
Open a window Fresh air helps your body waking up without stress.
Eat breakfast slowly. Fun fact: the fast in breakfast has nothing to do with rushing. It comes from “to break the fast” — ending the hours your body hasn’t eaten during the night. So if anything, breakfast was never meant to be fast. Use local products – whole-grain bread with olive oil, a piece of fruit, or yogurt with nuts.
Step outside for a moment. Five minutes of morning sun is better than an extra cup of coffee.
It’s not about being slow — it’s about being present. By starting your morning calmly, you set the tone for the rest of the day: less rushed, more focused.
Spanish culture embraces the idea of tranquilidad — calm as a way of life. Not everything has to happen right now. That mindset is also present in the morning. Where in Northern Europe breakfast often feels like a necessary chore, here it becomes a moment of connection — with yourself, with the day, with the sun slowly filling the city with light.
That doesn’t mean ignoring your work or plans. It simply means choosing how you begin. And that might just be the healthiest decision of all.
Tomorrow, try starting five minutes later. Turn on the radio, open the window, take a deep breath. The world won’t run away — but you’ll feel better.
