Spain shines at BOXAM 2025 in La Nucía

The Spanish boxing selection has had a strong performance at the BOXAM International Tournament 2025, held from February 4 to 8 in La Nucía, Ciudad del Deporte. Spain won a total of 14 medals, including three gold. Champions Pablo Coy, Noelia Gutiérrez and Mariana Soto made sure the Spanish national anthem sounded in the Pabellón Muixara.

International top sporting event

The prestigious Boxam boxing tournament took place for the third time in La Nucía and attracted 200 boxers from 20 countries, including several Olympic and world champions. The medal ceremony was attended by Felipe Martínez, president of RFE Boxeo, and Bernabé Cano, mayor of La Nucía and deputy for Sports. Boxing legend Lennox Lewis, former Olympic and world champion, also attended the event.

Spanish boxers in top form

The Spanish team performed excellently and managed to win three gold, three silver and eight bronze medals. In the women’s category, Noelia Gutiérrez won the title in the -52 kg class by beating Romanian Mihaela Badescu. Mariana Soto took gold in the -63 kg category after beating English Ella Thompstone. In the men’s category, Pablo Coy became champion in his weight class by beating British Dimeji Shittu.

Kazakhstan dominated the Boxam tournament with six gold medals and a total of 18 podium finishes, followed by England (five golds) and Ukraine (four golds).

Promotion for La Nucía

The event was not only a sporting success, but also provided an economic boost for La Nucía and the surrounding municipalities. Thanks to the international participants and spectators, more than 2,000 hotel nights were booked. The tournament was the kick-off for the major sporting events that La Nucía will organize in 2025, as presented at FITUR in Madrid.
