And that might be the most beautiful lesson life on the Costas teaches you: you don\u2019t need to build a wine cellar or become a sommelier. Wat ik w\u00e9l heb? Een oude houten kist onder de trap met zes flessen die me wat zeggen. Een plank in de keuken waar de kurkentrekker altijd ligt. En een hoek van de patio waar \u2018s avonds een fles open gaat zonder dat er een reden voor nodig is. <\/p>\n
Wine doesn\u2019t get its own separate room in my home \u2014 it\u2019s simply part of the space I live in. <\/p>\n
More and more homes along the Costas are being designed with the climate in mind. Cool floors, thick walls, good insulation. Those aren\u2019t just smart choices \u2014 they also create an atmosphere where wine feels right at home. <\/p>\n
I know people who\u2019ve built a niche in the wall from local stone just for their favourite bottles. Others repurpose old wine crates as wall shelves or bedside tables \u2014 not as a gimmick, but because it fits how they want to live: simple, local, and mindful of materials. <\/p>\n
The best thing about life here? Indoors and outdoors flow into each other. Most wine isn\u2019t enjoyed inside, but on the terrace, by the barbecue, or at a long table under a pergola. <\/p>\n
That\u2019s why it makes perfect sense to design your outdoor space so that wine feels naturally at home there. A small outdoor kitchen. A stone table in the shade. Plants that release their scent when the air warms up. And yes \u2014 maybe a spot where your glasses can dry under a little canopy. <\/p>\n
What I\u2019ve learned in Spain is that wine doesn\u2019t have to be a display. You don\u2019t need to talk about tannins or vintages. Wine is a gesture \u2014 placing a bottle on the table is simply a way of saying, \u201cyou\u2019re welcome.\u201d <\/p>\n
If you shape your home around that gesture \u2014 open, warm, relaxed \u2014 wine becomes something that lives not just in the bottle, but in the walls, the light, and the rhythm of your day. <\/p>\n
Maybe that\u2019s it, in the end. Not a \u201cwine house,\u201d but a home that invites moments at the table. Not for parties, but simply for being together. For me, that\u2019s what modern living means \u2014 not grander, but more human. <\/p>\n
A home where a bottle of wine isn\u2019t tucked away, but waiting \u2014 like a chair for an unexpected guest, or a shady spot for a long conversation. In short: there\u2019s hardly a more beautiful source of inspiration for living than\u2026 wine.<\/p>\n
