The National Police have arrested a 56-year-old man of Belgian nationality in Benidorm. A European arrest and extradition warrant had been issued by Belgium against this person. The man was found guilty of five rapes.
Judicial police officers were informed of his possible whereabouts in Benidorm. They initiated an arrest at a hotel where the fugitive was staying. According to Belgian authorities, he was convicted of five counts of sexual assault against his 16-year-old adopted daughter, committed between 1999 and 2001. These are said to have taken place after the family moved to the UK.
The man, who was sentenced to nine years in prison, escaped from prison while on leave. He has 2,095 days left to serve on his sentence. The suspect has been transferred to the Central Investigation Court and the National Court.
