Wine & Living – Inspiration for the Future

A friend from England asked me recently: “Has wine basically become part of your interior by now?”I laughed — not because it was exaggerated, but because it was actually quite true. Here, wine is quite literally part of life — not just in the glass, but in the way you live in your home. And that might be the most beautiful lesson life on the Costas teaches you: you don’t […]

Aliats: Wings, balance and the future of sustainable wine

This guest article by Juan Martínez Barberá tells the story of Aliats – a project that shows how sustainable wine and bats work hand in wing to create a new balance between nature and viticulture. In October, evening falls early over Fontanars dels Alforins, an hour inland from the Costa Blanca. The region – often called the Valencian Tuscany – is known for its rolling hills and vineyards. Above the […]

Sunday begins with vino: how wine became a natural ritual

When I still lived in England, a glass of wine was reserved for special occasions — a dinner, a birthday, or one of those evenings when you felt you’d earned it (after three hours of wrestling with London’s public transport, for example). Here in southern Spain, I learned something entirely different: wine isn’t a reward. It’s part of the rhythm — a ritual. Sunday lunch: wine as the beating heart […]

The ancient wine routes of Spain – from amphora to wine trail

Some journeys begin without you even realising it. A glass of wine, the scent of earth, a name on a label — and suddenly you’re on your way. As I travel along Spain’s ancient wine routes, I’m struck by how wine here isn’t just something to drink, but something to experience. It travels with history, winds through time and landscape, and tells along the way what words sometimes cannot. The […]

Winemaking with character: how architecture reveals the soul of the bodega

When I still lived in London, the word “winery” made me think of rows of bottles in a cellar that smelled faintly of damp cardboard. That changed when, in my twenties, I first stepped into a bodega in Andalusia: a cool hall with vaulted ceilings, thick stone walls and that magical play of light and shadow. That’s when it hit me — a bodega isn’t a storage space; it’s a […]

Grape superfood

Superfood or sweet excuse? What grapes and wine really bring us

At the market in Moraira, I see them piled high: bunches of grapes — blue, green and sometimes almost black. While tourists casually slip a bunch into their bags, I know there’s far more behind those grapes than just a tasty snack. In Spain they say uvas para la vida — grapes for life. And there’s real truth in that saying. Small fruits, big power Grapes are packed with antioxidants, […]

Aural – wine with its own tone

There isn’t much written about it yet. No glowing reviews, no wine scores in glossy guides. And yet, the name Bodegas Aural keeps coming up — in conversations with sommeliers, at tastings, or simply around the table. The first time we heard the name was at BonAmb in Jávea. Sommelier Enrique García Albelda spoke of it with a sparkle in his eye. “Aural,” he said. “That’s wine that sounds.” It […]

Fondillón Alicante: an ancient wine on the silver screen

I still remember the first time I heard the name Fondillón. A friend from Alicante mentioned it almost in a whisper, as if it were a secret reserved for the initiated. “A wine even kings used to drink,” he added. It sounded like a myth — until I discovered that Fondillón truly exists, and is in fact one of the most extraordinary wines in Spain. In the lead-up to this […]

From patio to wine cellar: how wine becomes part of your home

In the summer months, my patio belongs to the evenings. There, beneath the scent of jasmine and the rustle of olive trees in the breeze, stands a wooden table with a few weathered chairs. Nothing fancy. But on that table, there’s almost always a bottle of wine. Sometimes a local tempranillo, sometimes something I’ve dropped into a supermarket basket out of pure curiosity. The beauty of it is that the […]

Enjoy in moderation – wine and wellbeing

When I moved to the Costa Blanca, I was struck by how natural wine feels here. A weekday lunch in Jalón? A glass of wine, of course. Tapas on a terrace in Moraira? Naturally, with wine. But what also stood out to me was that Spaniards take their time. No one downs three glasses in a row. It’s about tasting, talking, laughing — and there’s always a jug of water […]

BonAmb sommelier Enrique García Albelda – a life devoted to wine and emotion

The air in BonAmb’s wine cellar carries a quiet serenity. A cool, gentle stillness lingers between the wooden barrels, as if even time itself breathes more softly here. Along the wall, rows of bottles stand like soldiers at rest. Gently, BonAmb’s warm-hearted sommelier – a man with the calm passion of someone who truly lives his craft – lifts a bottle, studies the label as though greeting an old friend, […]

About the wine month:

October is Wine Month at The Sound Of The Costa. Along the Costa Blanca and the Costa del Sol, we celebrate the vendimia – the moment when summer and harvest meet. A month filled with stories of gastronomy, wellbeing, living and culture, all connected by the shared passion for wine.

In collaboration with Grupo BonAmb, including the renowned restaurants BonAmb and Casa Pepa, and partners like Aural Wines, we bring the richness of Spanish wine culture to life — through articles, radio and social media.
