PSOE Benidorm criticizes delay in health center

The Socialist Municipal Group of Benidorm, the PSOE, has criticised the delay in the construction of the new health centre in Rincón de Loix. During a visit by the Minister of Health, Marciano Gómez, no estimated completion date was given for the project. This led to discontent within the municipal group.

Construction standstill and growing concerns

Construction of the centre began in late 2022 on a 3,558 square metre site. It is intended to replace the current aid clinic. The initial investment of 4.7 million euros was approved under the government of Ximo Puig. However, months of work stoppage have raised concerns within the council and among Benidorm residents. In June 2024, PSOE Benidorm already pointed out the lack of progress on the construction site.

Disappointment over broken promises

Despite earlier assurances from Carlos Mazón, president of the Generalitat Valenciana, that the health centre would be operational by the end of 2024, uncertainty remains about its actual delivery. The delay has led to confusion and disappointment among the local population, who were counting on improved healthcare infrastructure.

Broader public health problem

In addition to the delay in Rincón de Loix, PSOE Benidorm points to broader problems within public health in the region. Hospital waiting lists are increasing. In addition, plans for a new health centre in the Els Tolls neighbourhood are still pending. The Socialists express their concern about the lack of priority for health care under the current regional government. They stress the need for concrete action to improve access to medical services and reduce waiting times.

The municipal group calls on the city council and regional authorities to provide transparency on the progress of the project and to commit to more efficient healthcare in Benidorm and the surrounding area.
